Basin Waste Information
A basin waste is component that is located in your sink drain
hole, where the sink plug is fitted to allow you to hold or drain
the water from your bathroom sink. It also has a threaded connection
allowing you to connect the waste pipe that will drain the waste
water from your sink and away from your home.
There are several types of basin waste for you bathroom sink.
The main difference is the style of plug. But additionally there
are two types beyond the plug, these are slotted and un-slotted
basin wastes.

Slotted Basin Waste
These are the more regular type of waste for you bathroom
sink. As shown in the right hand picture, they feature a
slot around the threaded portion that goes through the sink.
This slot is designed to catch the waste water that goes
into the overflow on the sink. The water will drain through
an internal channel on the sink into the basin waste and
away.

Un-slotted Basin Waste
The un-slotted basin waste is often used on modern bathroom
sinks where there is no overflow. If a slotted version were
used there is a danger that any blockage would back up and
cause a spillage under the sink area where water had been
allowed to escape from the redundant slot in the basin waste.
