What is a column radiator?
The term column radiator is often used when describing a traditional
cast iron radiator. The term column is used to describe the vertical
tubes that go into making up each section of the radiator.
Column Radiators are also tubular steel radiators that look similar
to cast iron radiator, but are not cast, but instead welded sections
of tubular steel.
Below are three examples of column radiators viewed end on:
A) 4 Column Cast Iron Radiator
B) 4 Column Radiator - Tubular Steel
C) 6 Column Cast Iron Radiator

The advantages of a tubular steel column radiator are that they
are lighter (cast iron radiators are very heavy), they are cheaper
as there is not as much material used in the construction of the
radiator and generally they are supplied in a finished colour unlike
cast iron rads that are normally supplied in primer in readiness
for a finish coat. Additionally steel column radiators can look
equally at home in a contemporary setting as a traditionally styled
room. As standard this style of radiator is finished in a powder
coated white RAL 9010. Whilst this is a very popular finish they
can look stunning with colours applied.
