There are two main types of electric elements for electric only heated towel rails, these are standard self regulating electric elements and thermostatic electric towel rail elements. These two types of elements are pictured below. Both of these are show in standard chrome heated towel rails.

The main advantage of an electric heated towel rail over a regular bathroom radiator is that you can have a warm dry towel all year round, not just in the winter months when your central heating system is running. Although dual fuel towel rails are also available to run on your central heating in the winter and can be switched to the electric option in the summer months, for warm towels after every shower or bath.

Other types of bathroom heating to complement or as an alternative to an electric heated towel rail or electric bathroom radiator would be underfloor heating or electric fan heaters.
